Hello my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am a resident of Michigan. I am calling because you are the Governor of Michigan and have the ability to help in a serious situation your community needs aid in. I am calling today about Krystal Clark, a woman who is currently living in dangerous conditions at the Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility (HWV) located in Ypsilanti Michigan. In our community it is known as the Valley of Death due to how many people have lost their life while under the care of that facility. Krystal Clark is currently suffering from an Aspergillus (As-per-gil-lus) mold infection as well as (MRSA) a bacterial infection. These ailments are causing mold to grow out of her ears, severe nerve damage resulting in the loss of function in half of her face as well as mobility issues, respiratory issues, hair loss, and lesions on her body. Her condition is due to the negligence of the people in power at HWV who can help her, but won’t. This is what I and the constituency you represent are asking: Free Krystal by granting her medical clemency, commuting her sentence, or pardoning her, Bring in third party contractors to inspect and fix mold instead of relying on internal reviews, Allocate funding for medical and infrastructural upgrades to improve living conditions, and create a release plan for all those presenting with extreme medical issues. Please act in accordance with our requests, and continue to represent your constituents, and demand Krystal Clark and others get proper medical care as demanded by law, and strongly advocate for the clear, necessary medical clemency.

Dear Governor Whitmer, I am writing to you today as a concerned Michigan citizen regarding the inhumane and appalling conditions of the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility (WHV) located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It has come to my personal attention that people and citizens within this facility are suffering potentially life-threatening conditions due to the presence of dangerous and out of control black mold within this facility. One of these people is Krystal Clark, a woman who has experienced severe nerve damage resulting in the loss of feeling and function in half of her face, as well as the growth of mold in and around her ear. Her condition is a direct result of neglect and indifference by MDOC and the people in power who can address and help her, but won't. Here is what we are asking of you: • An independent inspection of the facility's environmental and health conditions. • Emergency medical attention for Krystal Clark and any other individuals suffering from similar issues. • A long-term plan to ensure safe, sanitary, and habitable conditions for all inmates at the facility. Krystal Clark is a human and deserves the medical attention required to address her condition, regardless of her incarceration. Please act in accordance with our requests, and continue to represent your constituents, and demand that Krystal Clark and others get proper medical care as demanded by law, and strongly advocate for the clear, necessary medical clemency. We are imploring you to prioritize her care before it's too late for her and other inmates within this facility. We, the people of Michigan and beyond, are demanding that you uphold the values of justice, fairness, and human dignity. We are looking forward to your response outlining the steps and action you will take to address these abhorrent and unacceptable conditions. Thank you for your consideration and time to read this citizen's concern. Sincerely, [YOUR NAME]

Krystal Clark is a human and deserves the medical attention required to address her condition, regardless of her incarceration. Dear Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, I am writing to request action for Krystal Clark, who is currently incarcerated at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility (WHV). Ms. Clark’s condition has quickly deteriorated due to the mold infestation within WHV; she now faces life-threatening symptoms of mold exposure. Her situation has deteriorated to the point that a medical professional outside the prison has warned that she will not survive if she remains at WHV. Court records indicate that Ms. Clark was not charged with the death penalty, and if that is truly the case, then why is she indirectly facing a punishment that she was not charged with? I urge you to recognize this matter as not only an issue of injustice but also one of basic human decency. We urge you to conduct a visit with other congressional members and help Krystal Clark by utilizing the Federal Prison Oversight Act (FPOA) to demand justice for Krystal Clark. This is to enhance transparency in the U.S. federal prison system by utilizing the Department of Justice’s Inspection General to ensure that the prison is up to standards and safe living conditions. Despite the overwhelming deterioration of Ms. Clark’s physical health, WHV healthcare staff, including Dr. Ellison, have refused to treat her symptoms and instead referred her to mental health services, insinuating that her condition is psychological rather than physical. She has been denied access to outside specialists who could provide life-saving care. When attempting to advocate for herself at the Warden’s Forum, Ms. Clark was told to "shut up" & sit down because "there is no mold in this facility". Then, in what was clearly an attempt at retaliation, the Warden's Assistant, Mr. Horton, ordered her to stay in a room at the Control Center for four and a half hours which resulted in her missing the opportunity to talk to her attorney, David Steingold. Not only that, but Inspector Chapman took away her phone calls to her imprisoned brother, which had been allowed for years. She was restricted from these calls for twenty-one days. Alongside these inherent attempts at retaliation, Ms. Clark’s mail and JPay take weeks to come in. It is as clear as day that remaining at WHV is both a threat to Ms. Clark’s livelihood and rights as an American Citizen. Unfortunately, it is not only the warden, staff, and unhealthy conditions that have been putting Ms. Clark’s life at risk, but also her lack of access to good medical care. Medical care outside the MDOC is approved, but Ms. Clark must pay for the transportation as well as two corrections officers to transport her to and from the medical facility, which is unacceptable. Prison conditions should be up to standards to ensure that Krystal Clark wouldn’t be in this position in the first place. Making sure this system of punishment is humane and efficient is the job of the Federal government, and we ask you to organize a plan to ensure those conditions are true. I urge you to do anything in your power to give her the opportunity to receive the medical care she desperately needs with your power. Her continued incarceration under these conditions is not only unjust but inhumane. Please act in accordance with our requests, and continue to represent your constituents, and demand that Krystal Clark and others get proper medical care as demanded by law, and strongly advocate for the clear, necessary medical clemency. Thank you for your time and consideration of this urgent matter. Sincerely, [YOUR NAME]

Here is what we are asking of you: • Use the MLCO, the Michigan Legislative Corrections Ombudsman, to push for accountability. • Continue filing official legislative inquiries to request investigations within the prison. Request ongoing and extended facility tours to inspect prison conditions more thoroughly. • Specifically investigate the mold problem inside the facility. • Bring mold-detecting equipment and/or trained detection animals to determine: The cause of the mold, the level of mold contamination, and the areas affected by mold • Use these inspections to prevent the facility from hiding, covering up, or only visually addressing the mold problem. Krystal Clark is a human and deserves the medical attention required to address her condition, regardless of her incarceration.
